Gary E. Maurer, 78, of Wakeman, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at his home. He was born on March 5, 1936 in Sandusky and has lived in Erie County most of his life. He was a 1954 graduate of Vermilion High School and served in the US Army. He worked on the family farm, Maurer Farms, was a truck driver for Consolidated Freight, and was a commercial pilot at Ortner's Airport in Wakeman. He was a member of the Vermilion Masonic Lodge, Vermilion AMVETS and VFW, and the Huron Eagles. He enjoyed boating, fishing, camping, spending winters in Florida with his wife, and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife and caregiver of 25 years Elaine (Cajka), his children, Lauren (Pedro) Tula, of North Canton, Shanon (Jeremy) Heddleson, of Proctor, WV, step-sons, James (Diane) Billingsley, of PA, Jeff (Jean) Billingsley, of Elyria, and Joseph Billingsley, of FL, a brother Jim Maurer, of Vermilion, a sister Donna Campbell, of New London, five grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ervin and Hazel (Berk) Maurer, a grandson Jimmy Billingsley, and a brother Robert Maurer.

Friends may call on Saturday, March 7, from 2:00 pm until the time of services at 5:00 pm at the Morman Funeral Home 16 Cooper Street, Wakeman. Pastor Tim Morrison will be officiating.
